We see an office, one not too different than those used by your standard general manager. This is the office of the chairman of the board.
No, not that one. This is the office of Magnus James, the owner and chairman of NWA Stable Wars. And this bespectacled nut has something to say apparently.
"Good evening. Or if you're reading this in the morning, good morning. I don't have any knowledge of when you login to read this, but regardless, my sentiment is that you should be having fun. I know I am.
What's that? I'm breaking the fourth wall too much. Oh boy, you are going to hate this company then. Because you see, the NWA and professional wrestling has needed shaking up for a long time. It has needed a new voice. One that is, perhaps, a little silly. But one that is, at its very core, postmodern and self aware. That is what I bring to the professional wrestling world. A promotion free from the constraints of reality and the so called fixed tropes of this industry. Free from the pressures of appeasing a senile old man stuck in 1985 and his army of yes men. Free from the need to make money or logical sense, nor to do what the shareholders want. This is NWA Stable Wars.
Now some of you might remember me from back in the day. I ran many a wrestling organisation. I over pushed Paul London a lot, made a nobody in Kyle Matthews the world champion despite him being 4 feet and 80 pounds, and realised the potential in stars like Johnny Gargano, Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly long before it was cool to do so. I've been away from this game for five long years, and in that time I've seen many a thing. I gave up my old office life, started on a writing course and will have a novel published at some point in the next couple of years. I'm ten times the writer I was back then, and a much better and giving person. And I'm not afraid to speak my mind.
This is why NWA Stable Wars will not sign anyone to an exclusive deal. Exclusivity sucks. It's what lead great talents like PAC, Mustafa Ali and The Revival being wasted by WWE, rather than being free to wrestle where they want. It's what cost Brodie Lee valuable months of his career before his tragic passing, not that anyone could have known that back then. It's what has killed many attempts to establish this league of ours permanently, when people hoard talent and then disappear. Now, more than ever, we should be working together to give the gigantic pool of wrestling talent, that we are so lucky to have, the platform to succeed, showing our love for this business of ours. And giving our creativity the chance to succeed and take us places in our lives.
Anyway, I have rambled enough. The point of this little piece is to establish what NWA Stable Wars is. The clue is in the name. A variety of veteran talent will be forming their own groups of 4 wrestlers together to do battle. What's the prize? A trophy I guess, maybe a hot dog and a handshake. Or a voucher to get 20% off at Denny's. Ultimately, this is just an excuse to put together shows with some old friends, and use one of my many tropes, which I'm sure you'll all be familiar with. I like to call them Magnusisms. Here are just some of them:
• Giving wrestlers outdated and/or stupid gimmicks, often inspired by stuff I see on the internet/Youtube
• Making jokes that only hit 1 in 20 times at best
• Matches that are limited to one paragraph and make up about 10% of the actual show. And always end in BIG CAPITAL LETTERS
• Promos that don't sound anything like the guy who is cutting them
• Angles that are dropped or forgotten about so quickly, even Vince Russo would turn in his grave (Wait, he's alive? WTF thought he was dead LOL)
• Pushing wrestlers that are probably long retired or inactive
• Making references to stuff I'd written ten years ago that isn't relevant or remembered anymore
• Speling and grammarmistakes aplenty
• And many more
Shows will come out as and when I can find the time, which is at least partially an excuse and translates to when I have enough ideas. I have many other commitments and assignments I have to sort out, not to mention that novel I talked about. But like I said, the chance to do this one more time with old friends is one I wasn't going to pass up. And I aim to shake some feathers and up everyone's game, if you are up to the challenge.
Have a good day. And some final words of wisdom: don't forget to get your daily intake of Vitamin C. Its cold at this time of year, unless you live in Florida or the parts of the world where it happens to be summer. Regardless, eat healthy and enjoy the ride.'
