NWA Reign
March 26th, 2022 [Saturday] @ Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, NC
2,677 Spectators
1. Adam Cole & Zack Sabre Jr. vs. AJ Styles & Roderick Strong
>Winner: Sabre (7:20) with a Northern Lights suplex hold on Styles
~ Another good opener that went by very quickly with Sabre picking up a decisive victory over Styles before their match next week.
2. Wahoo McDaniel Memorial Block Match: Kota Ibushi vs. Xavier Woods
>Winner: Ibushi (11:01) following a corkscrew 630 senton
~ Ibushi rebounds with a win in a very athletic match and moves back into contention with four points. Woods looked frustrated with himself after the bell and remains the only wrestler in the block without points.
3. Kazuchika Okada & Bandido vs. Prince Devitt & Bobby Roode
>Winner: Bandido (9:42) with La Magistral on Devitt
~ Very good match that saw Bandido catch Devitt with a flash pin and barely hold him down for the three count.
4. Wahoo McDaniel Memorial Block Match: Karl Anderson vs. Rush
>Winner: Rush (17:37) following the Bull’s Horns
~ Rush made good on last week’s promise, though Anderson proved to be competitive. The crowd was solidly behind Anderson throughout, audibly reacting to each kick out and near fall he could muster. Anderson remains near the bottom of the block while Rush moves to the top alongside White, PAC and Ibushi.
~ Intermission was interrupted by reDRagon as O’Reilly grabbed a microphone at ringside and addressed the situation between the Young Bucks and Briscoe Brothers that led to the tag team match scheduled for later. O’Reilly pointed out that he didn’t appreciate Nick Jackson “dragging their name through the mud” in order to insult Jay and Mark, especially since their only match in Reign thus far has been a NWA North Carolina Tag Team Championships match, which the Bucks didn’t win either. Fish grabbed the microphone and demanded to be added to the match tonight but was immediately interrupted with “Calm down Bob…” by Nick Jackson as he and brother Matt walked to the ring. Nick reminded everyone that “old Bob Cod” was the one staring at the lights at the end of that match and when he mentioned it last week, he “didn’t know you guys still worked here”. O’Reilly had enough and jumped from the ring to go after the Bucks but wasn’t quick enough to beat the Briscoe Brothers. Mark and Jay pummeled Matt and Nick until officials separated them once again. Mark yelled at Fish, who tossed a microphone to him. Mark said “the more… the merrier… as far the Briscoes are concerned” as he pointed at reDRagon.
~ The crowd seemed thrilled with the idea of the addition of reDRagon in the match later tonight and the tag team division seems to garner some of the biggest reactions in Charlotte thus far.
5. Wahoo McDaniel Memorial Block Match: PAC vs. Johnny Gargano
>Winner: Gargano (20:29) following the Hurts Donut
~ Easily the match of the night so far with many innovative counters and plenty of strong reactions as Gargano refused to relent. The finish came as a surprise to the crowd and created a tremendous reaction. PAC is unable to separate himself but remains at the top of the block, while Johnny gets rid of his goose egg.
6. Young Bucks vs. Briscoe Brothers vs. reDRagon
>Winner: O’Reilly (23:41) with a reverse capture suplex hold on Matt Jackson
~ Another unexpected result by the majority of the crowd and a tremendous match that allowed all six men to have their moments. Nothing seemed finished at the end of the match though and if not for exhaustion, many expected another brawl. O’Reilly and Fish hugged at ringside as each man realized they would have another opportunity to win the NWA North Carolina Tag Team Championships.
7. NWA North Carolina Ladies Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match: Hikaru Shida vs. Candice LeRae
>Winner: Shida (16:23) following the Coconut Flash
~ Competitive match throughout and LeRae seemed pretty upset when it was over. Shida moves on to face hometown heroine Charlotte Flair in two weeks.
8. Wahoo McDaniel Memorial Block Match: Jay White vs. Adam Page
>Winner: Draw (30:00) Time limit expired
~ The best was literally saved for last on this night as White and Page battled in and out of the ring before the bell rang. The crowd seemed to support Page throughout the match but reacted with a standing ovation for both men once they realized the time limit had expired. Page eventually offered a handshake as both men stared at each other in the ring but White wasn’t obliging. Instead, he flipped off Page, headed through the ropes and then slowly pulled his thumb across his throat as he stood on the apron to a roar of boos.
