NWA Reign ~ Clash of the Champions “Coronation” Night 1
May 28th, 2022 [Saturday] @ Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, NC
2,920 Spectators
1. Britt Baker vs. Mia Yim
>Winner: Yim (9:14) following the Protect Ya Neck
2. PAC vs. Page vs. Ibushi
>Winner: PAC (16:49) following a Tiger suplex on Ibushi
~ Arguably match of the night as there may have been more pinfall breakups as there were near falls. PAC secures the 11th entry in the Best of the Rest match while Ibushi slips to the 9th entry.
3. Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Prince Devitt vs. Bandido vs. Roderick Strong vs. Bobby Roode
>Winner: Roode (17:18) following the Northern Lariat on Strong
~ This was a ton of action and the referee was at a huge disadvantage throughout with near falls aplenty. Roode catches Strong from behind to earn the 8th entry in the Best of the Rest match.
4. Charlotte Flair & Natalya Neidhart vs. Hikaru Shida & Io Shirai
>Winner: Flair (7:50) by disqualification
~ This was quickly becoming a very heated match as the crowd was very much invested in Flair enacting her revenge. Unfortunately, Flair is unable to get retribution as Asuka returns through the crowd and attacks the right arm of Flair. Neidhart was unable to make the save this time as she was held by Shida and Shirai as the bell began to ring. Asuka would toss Flair under the bottom rope and immediately locked in a Fujiwara armbar. Flair screamed out in pain for several moments before Asuka released her and began stomping on the arm once more. Asuka then grabbed Flair with a crossface chickenwing and locked in the Asuka Lock. Officials began to enter the ring but it still took several minutes for them to get Asuka, Shida & Shirai to leave the ring. Neidhart crawled to Flair to check on her but neither of them looked to be in good condition. Shida would grab the NWA North Carolina Ladies Championship and handed it to Asuka who walked away holding it in the air.
5. Wahoo McDaniel Memorial Winner vs. Jack Brisco Memorial Runner-Up: Rush vs. AJ Styles
>Winner: AJ Styles (22:41) following the Styles Clash
~ A very close match that ended with several great near falls, leading to Styles dusting off the Styles Clash. Rush played the heel perfectly, wasting strong opportunities in the middle of the match but keeping the crowd engaged throughout. Styles proves just how timeless he has become with an amazing comeback and the pop for the step over before the Styles Clash was priceless.
6. Jack Brisco Memorial Winner vs. Wahoo McDaniel Memorial Runner-Up: Kazuchika Okada vs. Karl Anderson
>Winner: Karl Anderson (24:29) following a spinebuster
~ A dominant performance for the first half of the match for Okada, who maintained control of Anderson until a counter ended with Kazuchika on the wrong side of a huge backdrop driver. Anderson pulled energy from the crowd from then on and showed his resiliency with several unexpected kick outs. The crowd reaction to the spinebuster was just as big as the pop for the three count.
7. NWA International Junior Heavyweight Championship Match: Ultimo Dragon vs. Dragon Lee
>Winner: Lee (16:04) following the Desnucadora
~ Lee becomes the 25th Champion.
~ Probably the best wrestling match of the night and if the crowd had been more invested it may have come off that way. Innovative counters and unique reversals were scattered among some of the best dives in the history of the territory and ultimately led to Ultimo Dragon falling on the 23rd defense of his historic reign.
8. NWA North Carolina Tag Team Championships Cage Match: Top Guys vs. Briscoe Brothers
>Winner: Wheeler (42:13) with an O’Connor Roll
~ 6th successful defense
~ An absolute bloodbath and an absolute classic with all four men leaking throughout. The brawling alone kept the fans out of their seats and the referee busy keeping the legal men in the ring by themselves. The finish came with Wheeler catapulting Mark into the cage and then catching him stumbling backwards with the O’Connor Roll, sending him into the cage once more before the three count.[/span][/div]
