“Welcome to AWA Championship Wrestling on ESPN… ladies and gentlemen I’m Larry Nelson. We’ve got a great main event coming up for you this week… a championship match that I know you’re going to like” starts Nelson, who is sitting in front of the backdrop for Super Clash III. “But before we go to that… some very exciting news. Lee Marshall is standing by with a headliner for Super Clash III in Chicago. All I can say is it is the dream match of the wrestling world… let’s go to Lee” continues Nelson as the screen cuts away to Lee Marshall and a table holding two beautiful championship belts, surrounded by a group of well dressed men.
Lee Marshall is standing behind AWA President Stanley Blackburn, who is seated at the table between American Wrestling Association World Heavyweight Champion Jerry “the King” Lawler and World Class Wrestling Association World Heavyweight Champion “the Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich. Behind Lawler stands Continental Wrestling Association Promoter Jerry Jarrett and behind Von Erich is World Class Wrestling Association Matchmaker Frank Dusek.
Marshall begins “Ladies and gentlemen… what you are about to see could well be the most historic moment in the entire history of the great sport of wrestling” before introducing the men in the room. “Now what I’m talking about is something the fans have been clamoring about for years. The unification of the Championship of the World. A situation where two champions walk into the ring, only one man is going to leave that ring as the one and only Unified Heavyweight Champion of the World. These four men have had a chance to review the contract, to approve the contract and the only thing left now is to sign the contract” says Marshall.
Blackburn removes the contract from the folder and rifles through the pages before passing it to Von Erich. Dusek hands Von Erich a pen as Blackburn points to the signature line. Von Erich quickly signs the piece of paper and returns the pen to Dusek. Blackburn now turns towards Lawler and once more points to the signature line. Lawler slides the paper in front of himself and carefully signs his name before returning the stack of papers to Blackburn. Blackburn places the papers back into the folder and thanks both men before Marshall begins “Well fans what you’ve seen truly was historic… an agreement between these two great athletes to unify the Heavyweight Championship of the World at SuperClash III on November 20th at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. Don’t miss it!” finishes Marshall as the screen cuts back to Nelson.
“I was watching on the monitor while you were watching at home” starts Nelson. “I've been trying to figure out where are they going to get a main event for such a great occasion as Super Clash III… well there it is… a promoter’s dream… who could ask for better than Kerry Von Erich against Jerry Lawler?” continues Nelson. “Two World Champions… head to head in the wrestling ring… November 20th in Chicago, Illinois. Any promoter in the world would love to have that wrestling match… not only that but a great lineup of wrestling… get in touch with your local cable outlet, you do not want to miss on Super Clash III” says Nelson. “But tonight we have great wrestling action for you on ESPN… in our main event it will be Jeff Jarrett challenging Eric Embry for the WCWA World Light Heavyweight Championship!” finishes Nelson as the screen cuts to a commercial break.
The show returns from commercial with the AWA World Tag Team Champions Badd Company coming to the ring with their manager “Diamond” Dallas Page as “Bad Company” by Bad Company blares through the arena. Ray Odyssey and Shawn Baxter are already standing in the ring as they are announced to the crowd. Pat Tanaka and Paul Diamond made short work of the two youngsters and ended the match with a Slingshot DDT on Odyssey. Page celebrated with both men and raised their hands as he walked them to each side of the ring.
The screen cuts to Larry Nelson standing in front of the Super Clash III backdrop as he mentions that the AWA is always looking for international talent to help bolster the ranks and that has led the British Bulldogs to the AWA, “Dynamite” Tom Billington and “Davey Boy” David Smith. Billington and Smith step into the frame as Nelson asks them what their aspirations are in the AWA. “Dynamite” says that they have come to the AWA looking for championship gold and that’s exactly what Badd Company have in the AWA World Tag Team Championships. “Davey Boy” tells the fans that a bulldog won’t stop chasing something once they get a scent… and they smell something bad in the AWA. Nelson chuckles and alludes to Badd Company as Billington follows with “let the chase begin” just before the screen cuts to a commercial break.
The show returns from commercial with the familiar rift of “Still of the Night” by Whitesnake as the WCWA World Heavyweight Champion Kerry Von Erich makes his way to the ring. Gary Young is shown removing his jacket as he is introduced as the opponent before cutting back to Kerry shaking his robe off. Young showed a little offense in the beginning but the result was never in doubt as Von Erich used a discus punch to score the pinfall.
The screen cuts to Larry Nelson standing in front of the Super Clash III backdrop alongside Jerry “the King” Lawler holding his crown in one hand and the AWA World Heavyweight Championship in the other. Lawler tells Nelson that this match is “long overdue… there is only one world and there should be only one World Heavyweight Champion… and after November 20th that is how it’s going to be”. Nelson mentions this being a dream match and Lawler cuts him off with “Dream match?... this may be a dream for some people but this will be a nightmare for Kerry Von Erich!” as the screen cuts to a commercial break.
The show returns from commercial with AWA International Television Champion Greg Gagne telling everyone to mark their calendars for November 20th and Super Clash III. Gagne invites everyone to come to Chicago, Illinois to “by whatever means necessary… plane, train, or good old-fashion car”. Gagne follows by telling those unable to attend to “contact your local cable provider and request Super Clash III… the greatest wrestling event in history”.
The screen then cuts to a generic graphic for a Super Clash III Update before cutting again to Lee Marshall. Marshall starts “Hi everybody, I’m Lee Marshall with your Super Clash III update”. “I’m talking about the greatest event in the history of professional wrestling… Super Clash III… coming at you November 20th” says Marshall as the screen cuts to a generic graphic showing the location of Super Clash III. “The greatest wrestlers from all over the world joining together for one night… November 20th at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the world famous pavilion” continues Marshall. “Now there are two ways for you to attend this spectacular, historic event. One is… come join us in Chicago… we’ll be at UIC Chicago in the pavilion… you can come, have a ball with us that night or… call your local cable company and join us on a pay-per-view basis” says Marshall as the screen cuts to a generic graphic showing ticket information. The screen cuts to different pictures of talent as Marshall continues, “Let me give you an idea of some of the athletes already signed to take part in Super Clash III… Jeff Jarrett… Michael “P.S.” Hayes… Tommy “Wildfire” Rich… Medusa Miceli… Greg Gagne… Wendi Richter… Badd Company with their manager… “Diamond” Dallas Page… the Samoan Swat Team”. The screen cuts back to Marshall as he adds “And we’re going to settle this thing once and for all… two champions are going to walk into the ring… one man is going to walk out with two championship belts… the WCWA World Heavyweight Champion “the Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich squares off against the AWA World Heavyweight Champion Jerry “the King” Lawler… I’ll be back next week with even more exciting, even blockbuster news, concerning Super Clash III… in the meantime… you make your plans now to be a part of wrestling history!” finishes Marshall as the screen cuts to a commercial break.
The show returns from commercial with Wendi Richter jogging to the ring to “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper. Richter is taking off her jacket when “Sexy” by Klymaxx cuts through the arena, bringing the AWA World Ladies Champion Madusa Miceli to the ring with her manager “Diamond” Dallas Page behind her. This was a competitive match that was cut short by interference from Page, causing Richter to pick up the victory by disqualification.
The screen cuts to Larry Nelson standing in front of the Super Clash III backdrop as he mentions that the AWA has become the place for fresh, young talent just like second generation wrestler Brad Armstrong. Armstrong steps into frame and immediately mentions Buck Zumhofe and the AWA Light Heavyweight Championship. Armstrong says he has traveled across the United States and left his family behind to capture the championship and make them proud. Nelson adds that Armstrong will be in action next week to show what he can do inside the ring just before the screen cuts to a commercial break.
The show returns from commercial with “Wildfire” Tommy Rich climbing through the ropes to lots of boos from the ringside fans. Billy Travis is shown removing his jacket and raising his hand as he is announced to the crowd. Travis would put up little offense as Rich dominated much of the match and won with a sleeper hold.
The screen cuts to Larry Nelson standing in front of the Super Clash III backdrop as he mentions Wendi Richter’s victory by disqualification to “Diamond” Dallas Page. Page calls the win a fluke and reiterates that Madusa Miceli is the AWA World Ladies Champion and nothing is going to change anytime soon. Page then segues into talking about Badd Company and how the AWA World Tag Team Champions have nothing to worry about when it comes to the British Bulldogs. Page tells everyone to “get in line if they want some gold in AWA or… call me and I will personally show you the way baby!”. Page walks out of the frame as Nelson sends the show to another commercial break.
The show returns from commercial with Greg Gagne climbing the ring steps to a smattering of cheers before removing his ring jacket. Mike Laus raises his arm as he is announced to the crowd and then shakes hands with Gagne as the bell rings. Laus got in more offense than most would on this night but Gagne was able to finish him with an O’Connor roll.
The screen cuts to AWA World Light Heavyweight Champion Buck Zumhofe standing in front of the Super Clash III backdrop telling everyone to “rock and roll their way to Chi-Town for Super Clash III”. Zumhofe mentions that he will be defending the AWA World Light Heavyweight Championship that night and “no real rock ‘n’ roll fan would want to miss it”. Zumhofe follows by telling those unable to attend to “contact your local cable provider and request Super Clash III… and rock ‘n’ roll all night” just before the show goes to commercial break.
The show returns from commercial with Michael Hayes & Steve Cox challenging Samu & Fatu for the WCWA World Tag Team Championships. This was a very competitive match that got a decent amount of television time but unfortunately ended with Fatu and Michael Hayes battling outside the ring to a double count-out. Both teams had to be separated as the screen cuts to a commercial break.
The show returns from commercial with a replay of Jeff Jarrett challenging Eric Embry for the WCWA World Light Heavyweight Championship on October 15th from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. This was by far the best match of the show and proved to be a back and forth battle until Embry used underhanded tactics to control Jarrett. Jeff fought well from the bottom and teased the comeback several times before catching Embry with a dropkick after landing on his feet following a back body drop attempt. After several near falls and reversals, Jarrett used a small package pin to win the WCWA World Light Heavyweight Championship and end the show.
