PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING LEAGUE
"PWL 1: LESNAR VS. STEINER"
From the Little Caesars Arena
in Detroit, Michigan
December 24th, 2022
The show begins with a graphic for the PWL, and then we head ringside, where we are welcomed to the show by our broadcast team of Jimmy Smith and color analyst Josh Barnett.
They welcome us to the show, and begin to rundown what is going to take place later in the show, as a graphic for Brock Lesnar versus Scott Steiner appears on the screen. They then direct us to footage from the media conference that took place two days ago at the MGM Grand in Detroit.
The footage begins with quick comments from Principle Owner Shane McMahon and Executive Director Eric Bischoff before we see Brock Lesnar and his manager Paul Heyman sitting to the left and Scott Steiner sitting to the right of the podium as Bischoff helps direct questions from the crowd. The following comments are shown as part of this video package.
Heyman has this to say to start:
"MY NAME IS PAULLL HEYMAN, ADVOCATE FOR "THE BEAST INCARNATE".... BUH-ROCK! LESNARRRR!"
"SHUT YER FAT MOUTH!"
Eric turns to Scott, "Please, Scott, let them spe-"
"WHAT!? HE'S FAT!!!"
Heyman shuffles some papers in front of him as Brock just smiles with his arms crossed.
"Ladies and gentlemen, before I was so rudely interrupted by this Neanderthal to my right, I was saying that my name is Paul Heyman, and I am here to advocate on behalf of Brock Lesnar, the most decorated, accomplished, and terrifying man to ever step foot in a professional wrestling ring. Brock Lesnar does not prepare for opponents, opponents prepare for Brock Lesnar... an activity that is always futile. Brock Lesnar is going to deflate and humiliate 'Big Poppa Pump' right here in his own backyard, and Scott Steiner will look an ineffectual and impotent as anyone else who stands in Brock Lesnar's way."
"IMPOTENT! YOU'D KNOW ALL ABOUT THAT, YOU BIG WHALRUS! YOUR WIFE CAN'T EVEN FIND YOUR LITTLE DICK, FAT BOY!"
"Jesus, Scott..." Bischoff tries to hold him off, before laughing awkwardly, "Uh, ladies and gentlemen, Scott Steiner!"
"You know that bastard Brock Lesnar comes from an inferior university called Minnesota! And he keeps a home in that shit hole country known as Canada! Well I'm AMERICAN AND PROUD! And I'm from a highly educated university known MICH'GAN! I'm Division 1, and if I'd of been wrestle with a wimp like you back in my day, I'd of been champ, not you, you pansy ass! LOOK AT THESE ARMS! YOU THINK BIG 'N BAD, LOOK AT THESE BABIES! Heyman, you shut your fat mouth, I hate fat asses and I hate you! You come near me and I'll grab your bloated neck and pop your head off! And Brock, you can expect... EXACTLY... what I do, and what I did, in every match... last match, match before that... my first match... I'm stickin' my size twelve boot up yer ASS... so far... your gonna be flossin' with my SHOELACES, BOY!"
Brock speaks up now.
"Ha! You think you're a real bad ass, Scott! I think the gas is eating up your brain! Youre nothin' but a fake, and I'm gonna tear you up on Saturday night and not even break a sweat!"
"FAKE!? YOU CALLIN' ME FAKE! I BUILT SUPLEX CITY BEFORE YOU EVEN GRADUATED FROM MIDDLE SCHOOL! YOU WANNA SEE A REAL MAN, WELL SO DOES YOUR WIFE, AND AFTER I'M DONE WITH YOU, RITA'S GOING TO GET SOME REAL SATISFACTION FROM THE 'BIG BAD BOOTY DADDY'!"
Lesnar jumps up now, and security is getting in between them. Lesnar can be heard yelling.
"FUCK THIS, ERIC, I'M TAKING HIM OUT RIGHT NOW! I SAID LEAVE MY WIFE OUT OF THIS!"
Scott yells, "I SAY WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT... I WANT YOU, BROCK, I WANT A PIECE UH YOU RIGHT NOW!!!"
The media conference comes to an end there as cameras are flashing, and we head back ringside to Jimmy and Josh, who dissect that. Jimmy says that was a wild showing, and Josh Barnett questions Scott Steiner's tactics. He says it is a dangerous game to piss off a guy like Brock Lesnar, while Jimmy says there's only one Scott Steiner. We head to the ring for the playing of our National Anthem.
Jimmmy goes over Standard Rules and Alternative Rules, with Standard Rules having normal rope breaks, 10 counts outside of the ring, and disqualifications for use of foreign objects; Alternative Rules are more lax, with no timed count outs and use of foreign objects at the discretion of the referee. Jimmy then introduces our refereeing team, with Earl Hebner serving as our senior official tonight.
We then go to Tony Chimel in the ring, who is ready to introduce our first competitors of the evening.
MATCH ONE
STANDARD RULES
One Fall, 15 Minute Time Limit
Angel Garza vs. Malakai Black
Referee: Charles Robinson
Angel Garza is very sure of himself, but the unorthodox striker Black is able to throw him off of his game. Garza is caught in mid-air with a Spin Kick to the head from Black, and that's all she wrote for this match.
Winner by Pinfall: Malakai Black
(00:06:13)
We go backstage, where we see CM Punk standing in with interviewer Dasha Gonzalez. Dasha asks Punk about his match tonight with Kenny Omega, and what he thinks about "The Cleaner". Punk says that he and Omega don't have much in common. He says Kenny has a different style and philosophy, and arrogance about him he just doesn't understand. He says he respects this business and cherishes it's history, while a guy like Kenny Omega craps on it every chance he gets and tries to make a mockery of it. Punk says tonight he is going to look forward to beating the crap out of Kenny Omega and proving once again why he is "The Best in the World", and that he hopes to soon hold championship gold in the PWL.
We head back to the ring for our next match.
MATCH TWO
STANDARD RULES
One Fall, 15 Minute Time Limit
Bobby Lashley vs. Jake Hager
Referee: Tim White
Two big hosses take the ring here, with Hager taking the advantage early with knees and body blows, followed by a big Belly-to-Belly Suplex. Hager tries to stay on top of Lashley, keeping the pressure on, but Lashley manages to wrestle his way back up and deliver a Powerslam to change the tides. Hager gets back the momentum with a big Diving Shoulderblock, and then tries for a Doctor Bomb, but Lashley blocks it and hits a Backdrop. Lashley delivers a Spinebuster with authority and then unleashes a Spear to finish this match up.
Winner by Pinfall: Bobby Lashley
Bobby gets on the microphone and says he doesn't care if it's Brock Lesnar or Scott Steiner or whoever, he's putting all of the Heavyweights on notice, because he is "The Destroyer" and he has come to make leave his mark here in the PWL!"
MATCH THREE
ALTERNATIVE RULES
One Fall, 15 Minute Time Limit
Ricochet vs. Sean Waltman
Referee: Teddy Long
Waltman was dealing with a very fast and agile opponent here and opted to show his mat wrestling skill a bit tonight. Waltman would work over the neck of Ricochet throughout, but he couldn't hold down the "One and Only" forever. Ricochet would deliver a great Fosbury Flop to get the Detroit crowd behind him, but Waltman would use the Alternative rules to his advantage by grabbing a chair from ringside and smacking Ricochet across the face with it. Back in the ring, Waltman would come off the middle rope and hit a variation on the X Factor, but Ricochet would kick out at two. Ricochet would fight back with a flurry of strikes and evasions, and pick up Waltman on his shoulders for the Recoil, but Waltman would fight out of it and kick Ricochet low from behind and then roll him up in a Small Package to get the three count!
Winner by Pinfall: Sean Waltman
(00:08:15)
Sean would get on the mic afterwards and address the booing fans, saying that he and his boys are back, the Kliq is alive and well, and they are ready to take over the PWL by any... means... necessary! Some of the fans would actually cheer for Waltman after this as he gave out a few crotch chops on the way to the back.
Backstage, we have Dasha Gonzalez now standing in with Kenny Omega. Dasha reiterates what CM Punk said earlier about Kenny Omega not respecting the business and asks "The Cleaner" what he thinks about it. Kenny says that he doesn't need some wanna be Bret Hart like CM Punk telling him how to wrestle, or anybody else for that matter. He says he has brought a style all of his own to this business, and it has revolutionized it. He says while he does in fact respect the past, he is a wrestler for the future, and he will bring this business into the future, and if Punk can't hang with the times... he will be exterminated. Goodbye and good night... BANG!
We go back ringside for our next match.
MATCH FOUR
STANDARD RULES
One Fall, 15 Minute Time Limit
Matt Riddle vs. William Regal
Referee: Earl Hebner
This was a very gritty contest, as Regal was particularly nasty with his popular opponent. Riddle is a very good grappler, but Regal has a rough style that is tough for anybody to deal with, and Riddle found himself sucking air early and try to pull from the crowd for support to keep him going. Riddle would manage to make a comeback and tried to come off the top with the Flying Bro, but Regal got the knees up. Regal would attempt to twist Riddle up into the Regal Stretch, but "the King of Bros" would manage to grab the bottom rope. Regal would then go looking for a Regal Plex, but Riddle would slip out of it and deliver a Bicycle Knee Strike that Regal sold like death. Riddle would try to follow up, but Earl Hebner had seen enough to dove in between them and called for the bell. Regal was not moving an inch for over a minute in a beautiful selling job as the fans went nuts for Riddle.
Winner by KO: Matt Riddle
(00:12:34)
Before the next match Dasha Gonzalez catches up with Ken Shamrock before he goes through the curtain. Dasha asks how Ken is feeling about this match, and Ken says he's about to go INSANE! He says he doesn't care about the rules, he knows what Saturn is all about, and he came to go to WAR! His music hits, and Shamrock bursts off to go to the ring.
MATCH FIVE
STANDARD RULES
One Fall, 15 Minute Time Limit
Ken Shamrock vs. Perry Saturn
Referee: Tim White
Perry Saturn has a reputation for being a livewire, but Ken Shamrock isn't called "The World's Most Dangerous Man" for nothing. These two started out with heavy blows right from the start, as the fans could see the welts building up almost instantly. Saturn would take things to the outside and tackle Shamrock into the ring steps, following up with a boot across his face. Saturn would roll in and goad Shamrock back in. Shamrock would slide in with blood coming from his eyebrow, and Saturn would stay on the attack. Shamrock would reverse a whip attempt and hit a high Roundhouse Kick to Saturn. Shamrock would then put his hand on his eyebrow and then look at the blood and then yell out. Saturn would run and try to clothesline Shamrock, but Ken ducked it and then caught him a standing side Belly-to-Belly Suplex. Saturn stumbles up into the corner and Shamrock unleashes a flurry of fists into his mid-section. Shamrock grabs him for another Belly-to-Belly, but Saturn grabs his head and bites him! Tim White warns Saturn, but Saturn shoves him away and begins to blatantly choke Shamrock in the corner, and White has seen enough. He calls for the bell.
Winner by Disqualification: Ken Shamrock
(00:07:44)
Shamrock kicks Saturn look to break the choke and then begins to go for a choke of his own, but security and officials hit the ring to break things up. Jimmy and Josh state that they doubt this is the last time these two square off, though they wonder how a ring or rules could possibly hold these two together in a sanctioned match.
We go backstage once more, and this time Dasha Gonzalez is joined by Brock Lesnar's manager Paul Heyman. Dasha asks about Brock Lesnar's mental state following the media conference, and Paul just stares at her. Paul finally speaks, saying that he has been with Brock for a very long time... and he has never seen anything like this before. He then just slowly turns and walks away.
Jimmy and Josh are both expressing their anticipation after that, as we may see the most motivated and dangerous Brock Lesnar we have ever seen tonight!
MATCH SIX
ALTERNATIVE RULES
One Fall, 15 Minute Time Limit
Dynamite Kid vs. Ultimo Dragon
Referee: Teddy Long
Dynamite Kid was in full bastard mode, as he mushed Ultimo right across the face at the start when Dragon offered a handshake. Dynamite would proceed to taunt and take liberties with Dragon, choking him against the ropes, twisting his boot across his face, and slapping him in the back of the head. Dragon would exact some revenge with a flurry of kicks and a headscissors that would send the British superstar to the outside. Dragon would then deliver his eponymous Asai Moonsault to get a nice ovation from the crowd! Dynamite would use a low blow to get the advantage back, and then deliver a Suplex to Dragon on the entrance ramp. Back in the ring, Dynamite would go up top and try for a Diving Headbutt, but Dragon would avoid it. Dragon would try to lock on the Dragon Sleeper, but Dynamite would use knee strikes to get out of it. Dynamite would try for a Tombstone, but Ultimo would reverse it and hit one of his own, but only for a two count! Dragon would call for the end and try for a Tiger Suplex, but Dynamite would break free and use a Reverse Jacknife roll up for a two count, followed by a Sunset Flip into a Jacknife Pin while holding the tights, and that was enough to get the three count!
Winner by Pinfall: Dynamite Kid
Dynamite gets on the mic and tells all of the slags in Detroit they can sod off! He says he knows they love to take up for losers like Ultimo Dragon around here because they watch the Pistons lose enough in this arena night in and night out! They give him a lot of Hell for that cheap heat. He says they don't like it, they better get used to it, cause he don't care what that bloody tosser Punk or fanny boy Omega have to say, he's the real deal and he's going to be carrying the strap before it's all said and done!
We go to a pre-taped spot with Eric Bischoff talking about "PWL 2: Batista vs. Goldberg" coming to the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 21st! We will see "The Animal" Dave Batista taking on Bill Goldberg, as well as Seth "Freakin" Rollins facing off with Will Ospreay, and "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes battling with "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash, so you won't want to miss it!
MATCH SEVEN
ALTERNATIVE RULES
One Fall, 15 Minute Time Limit
CM Punk vs. Kenny Omega
Referee: Charles Robinson
Punk and Omega clearly do not like each other, as they exchange words in a heated stare down to begin the match. Omega slaps Punk across the face and tells him to bring it, and from there these have an exchange of holds for over a minute, ending in a deadlock as the fans here in Detroit give them a standing ovation. Omega and Punk exchange a few more armdrags before Omega manages to send Punk out of the ring with a Dropkick, followed by a Springboard Moonsault to the outside that gets a pop from the crowd. Omega then delivers a devastating V Trigger to Punk against the steps, and Barnett wonders if Punk has a concussion. Punk looks very out of it as they get back into the ring. Omega hits a Rolling Fireman's Carry, followed by a Moonsault off the middle turnbuckle, but only a two count. Omega goes for another V Trigger, but Punk dodges it and rolls him up for a two count. Back up, Punk tries to whip Kenny into the corner, but Kenny reverses and comes in with a Running Bicycle Knee Lift! Kenny gets Punk up again for a One Winged Angel, but Punk reverses into a Sunset Flip... Punk shoves him through and rolls up to his feet... V TRIGGER FROM PUNK ON A KNEELING KENNY OMEGA! He has the Anaconda Vise on, and there's nowhere for Kenny to go! Kenny is grasping out desperately for the bottom rope, but Punk repositions higher on his side as Kenny is flat on his back, and Josh Barnett points out that Punk has cut off the blood to his carotid artery! and his eyes roll into the back of his head.
Charles Robinson calls for the bell and it's all over.
Winner by TKO: CM Punk
(00:14:11)
CM Punk celebrates after the match. Kenny is revived by officials and what appear to be some of his friends. CM Punk grabs the microphone.
"DETROIT! GOD, IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK!"
The fans give him a great ovation, but then we see a ruckus happening up towards the guardrail area closest to the hard camera. Punk is distracted by this as security is handling the situation. It's a man in a leather vest with curly hair yelling...
"PUNK! PUNK, PLEASE GIVE ME AN AUTOGRAPH! I'M YOUR BIGGEST FAN!"
Some of the fans recognize this man and start chanting "PILLMAN! PILLMAN! PILLMAN!"
They put him in handcuffs in pull him to the back as Punk laughs.
"Well, I had something to say, but fuck it, I forgot what I was going to say! GOODNIGHT, DETROIT!"
The fans switch to chanting for Punk as he makes his way to the back.
